Saturday, July 16th, 2011Houses are cheap, but land is outrageous in places in the Philippines. I have two lots that my wife owns as foreigners cannot own land here. I paid 1000 peso a square meter for a lot in Bulacan and it is 500 square meters. I paid 3000 peso a square meter in Dau for a 150 square meter lot in a subdivision.
I just decided I didn’t want to live in that sub division as I am trying to talk the wife into moving to Zambales which is where Subic Bay is. It only took a few years to get her halfway there as we are in Angeles now so hopefully in a couple of years I will be building my house with a view of Subic bay.
Land in and around Angeles was going for 2000 to 3000 pesos a meter a few years ago and now it goes up monthly. The sub division lot I have is selling for over 6000 a square meter now. Inflation requires you to make more money just to keep up.
As far a houses, you can build a nicely appointed 150 square meter house with good fixtures and windows and reasonable workmanship for about 50,000 US dollars. I say reasonable because everything here is done by eyeball and there are no square walls or openings. It is just the way it is here but you can get close. Everything here is made from concrete block. I want a house with a small yard so I want a lot of about 1000 square meters. I just don’t like being cramped.

My Graduation Trip

When I was a senior in high school I made a report on the beautiful Ibiza. A Spanish speaking area with fun night life, but also a family friend vacation spot. I could hardly wait until I graduated from high school because I knew where I wanted to go for my graduation trip. I decided my best friend and I would rent a villa, so we went to the internet and did a search for luxury villas Ibiza. We found many different styles and locations of the villas. We ended up renting a two bedroom villa. It was wonderful trip to Valencia, we fell in love with the Mediterranean Sea. Our days we spent laying on the beach, and the nights we spent in the clubs having a good time. It was a wonderful vacation.

Saturday, May 7th, 2011Twice a year, my wife and I like to go on vacations that are as far outside what our normal routine is like as possible. Living in a major city with the crowds, noise, and pollution, that almost always ends up being somewhere out in the middle of nowhere. There’s a lot more to the great outdoors than say camping or skiing, though. We’ve stayed in exotic locations for camping, such as the Black Forrest of Germany and lived for a month in tiny villages in the Eastern European countries that were once part of the USSR. This time, we’re looking at heading South to the jungle, perhaps on a Uganda safari. This will be the first time we’ve been to Africa, so we’re both really excited about it. The next few years we’re going to concentrate on exploring this new continent that we haven’t been to yet, and maybe break it up in the middle somewhere with a trip to a remote island chain. Our goal is to cover as much of the globe as possible.
